It is important to understand that how IELTS writing test is graded and by applying that knowledge, it will improve your band score which will enhance your band score. You can therefore offer the examiners exactly what they want and concentrate on the tasks that earn you good marks.

Now that we know how to get a score higher than a 5, let's look at the differences between task achievement bands 6, 7, and 8.
The difference in these ratings comes down to how well we explain and illustrate our points.
Band 6– Provides relevant ideas but does not completely develop them with explanations or examples, or the explanations and examples provided are irrelevant.
Band 7- Provides relevant ideas that are supported by explanations or examples, although these ideas may be excessively broad or unfocused.
Band 8– Provides relevant principles, which are further developed with concentrated and particular instances and ideas.
Points to Remember:-
Complete the question in its entirety. Present pertinent ideas. Explain these concepts in detail. Examples that are relevant and particular should be used to back up your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion
Coherence refers to your capacity to communicate in a clear and understandable manner. All components are easy to read and grasp for answers in bands 6, 7, and 8 in this category. Parts of band 5 answers are difficult to comprehend.
This could be due to a high number of grammar errors, a loss of grammatical control over your sentences, a logical arrangement of words and sentences, or the use of inappropriate or inaccurate terms and phrases.
Each paragraph in Band 5 responses has a lot of diverse ideas. Each paragraph in Band 7 and 8 answers has only one idea, and the rest of the paragraph is used to describe and support that idea. You may improve your band score by clearly stating what each paragraph is about and then logically organising each phrase inside that paragraph.
The structure of the main body paragraphs should be as follows:
1. Idea (2 sentences).
2. Development or Explanation (Reasons- 3 sentences).
3. Example (Relevant as per your idea- 4 sentences).
Task 2 essay should have the following paragraphs:
Introduction. 2-3 paragraphs in the main body. Conclusion.
You may improve your coherence score even more by producing a strong introduction and then connecting your ideas to it.
Cohesion is the ability to connect ideas, sentences, and paragraphs, and one of the ways we do this is by using cohesive devices. Cohesive devices are sometimes known as 'linking words' or 'connecting gadgets.' Here are a few examples:
Band 5 replies either don't use any of these devices at all or do so incorrectly. These devices are used by some Band 5 answers, however they are overused. You won't gain any points if you use them in every sentence, and you'll lose points if you use them too often.
Band 6 replies, however they are not always appropriate or there is too much repetition of the same phrase. Use synonyms to add variety to your sentences.
Band 7 responses effectively use a wide range of these linking phrases; however there may be some overuse or underuse.
When it comes to employing cohesive gadgets, Band 8 candidates make no errors. They're utilised correctly, and they're not overused.
Key Points on Coherence and Cohesion:-
Organize your responses into logical paragraphs. Each paragraph should include only one primary theme. An introduction and a conclusion should be included. Explain and then give an example to back up your key ideas. Cohesive devices should be used correctly and responsibly. Use synonyms to mix up your linking sentences.
Lexical Resource
A lexical resource is simply a fancy name for the words and phrases you use, or, to put it another way, vocabulary. Users in Band 5 have a small vocabulary and rarely employ 'topic-specific' terminology.
Answers in bands 6, 7, and 8 typically include some question-specific vocabulary, but as we progress through the bands, word choices get more precise and question-specific vocabulary is used more frequently.
Band 6 responses make an attempt to incorporate popular vocabulary from the lesson, but there are some inaccuracies and problems in word structure and spelling. There are significantly fewer of these errors in Band 7 answers, although some are allowed. The words selected here are more likely to demonstrate proper style and collocations. There is still some room for word repetition. There are little spelling or word formation problems in Band 8 answers, and they employ extremely appropriate phrases to convey meaning correctly. There is also extremely minimal word repetition. It's worth noting that the above-mentioned cohesive devices have no bearing on your lexical resource score.
Finally, attaining a high lexical resource score does not require using a large number of long or sophisticated terms. You will lose marks if you do this and they are not appropriate and accurate. To earn a high band score, you must employ fewer often used terms, but you must use them precisely.
Key Concepts in Lexical Resources:-
Make an effort to expand your vocabulary by employing accurate synonyms. Use less common question specific terms that convey meaning appropriately. Make sure your work is free of errors in spelling and word construction.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
To comprehend this section, you must first comprehend what a "complex sentence" is and how to grasp and analyse one. When attempting 'complicated sentences,' Band 5 replies generally use ‘simple sentences,' with frequent blunders. The majority of the statements are grammatically incorrect. Because of the inaccuracies, it's difficult for the reader to understand what's being said.
Band 6 responses contain a combination of ‘simple' and ‘complex sentences,' with ‘complex sentences' causing the most errors. The majority of sentences contain faults, yet these errors rarely prevent the reader from comprehending the message.
Band 7 answers employ a range of 'complex structures,' with around half of the sentences being error-free. There is a wide range of applicable structures in Band 8 replies. The majority of the sentences are devoid of errors. It should be remembered that the more minor errors you make, the more likely you will acquire a lower band score, especially if the reader is unable to grasp what you have written.
